An 820-kilometer long fiber optic cable project from Rawalpindi to Khunjerab has been created active for industrial use by Pak-china fiber optic.

The cable plays an important role in the linkage of China and Pakistan around the world according to the spokesperson of special communication organizations. He added that “The completion of the project holds milestone which is very important.”

Expenditure on the initiative amounted to $44 million supported by 85% loan from the Exim Bank of China. The project is closely-held by the military-run SCO and its engineering. While the procurance and construction (EPC) contractor are Huawei.

The SCO said that the Pak-China fiber optic project is the first cross-border contact between the two neighboring countries. The communication contact can persuade be positive for net traffic from China to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, he added.

Around 18.2 kilometers portion of the cable passes through the federal capital, 466 kilometers in Gilgit-Baltistan, 280 kilometers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and 47 kilometers in Punjab. The cable reaches the city from Khunjerab via Karimabad, Gilgit, Chilas, Babusar high, Naran, Mansehra, and JaryKas.
